Two Houston Fire Trucks Collide; 1 Dead, 10 Injured

The accident occurred around 11 am Monday, March 30 at the corner of Dunlavy and Westheimer when a ladder truck and pumper truck collided with each other. The collision resulted in crushing a nearby sedan as well as knocking down a light pole, causing the surrounding Montrose neighborhood to lose power. The deceased, Leigh Boone, age 29, fought for 2 weeks in the hospital before succumbing to her injuries. She had been riding her bicycle to work when she was suddenly crushed by a 40-ton ladder truck. This tragic accident was the result of two fire trucks racing to what was later deemed a “false alarm”. Police determined the driver of the ladder truck ran a stop sign causing the accident. That driver was cited for his failure to stop.

This tragedy could have been avoided if the driver of the fire truck had simply followed the law. His failure to stop led to the death of an innocent young woman just trying to go about her day.
