Bastrop Wreck Kills Three Young Children
On Sunday, February 28, 2010, a horrible car accident occurred in Bastrop on Highway 21 near 290. This two-vehicle collision resulted in the tragic deaths of three children, all under the age of 9 years old. The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. when a pickup truck ran into the side of a van causing the van to flip over. Inside the van, three children were killed and four other people, including the driver, were injured. The driver of the pickup truck, a 19 year-old college student, and his passenger were unharmed in the wreck. According to officials, the driver of the pickup truck was not at fault because he had the right-of-way at the time of the collision.
This unfortunate accident is another example of how things can go from normal to tragic in no time at all. All too often, drivers become desensitized to the perils posed by everyday traffic. This can result in unnecessary risk-taking which can lead to tragedies like this one.
