The accident occurred in the 3300 block of the North Beltway near Veterans' Memorial around 2:20 a.m. According to investigators, the big rig was driving down the Beltway approaching a bank of toll booths when it struck a concrete lane divider and careened into a car whose driver was stopped to pay.
