Hit By a Driver Without Insurance in Texas?
Accident victims injured by uninsured motorists should not be surprised. The Houston Chronicle reports that twenty percent of Texas drivers do not carry the minimum auto insurance as required by Texas law. This means that there are almost four million drivers on Texas roads who to not carry the minimum amount of automotive insurance coverage. In an effort to crackdown on uninsured drivers, the State has developed a new database of Texas drivers called TexasSure. This database should help state and local officers quickly and accurately verify whether a driver has the appropriate automotive insurance as required by law.
If you have been hit by a drunk, uninsured driver, you could be the one responsible for your medical treatment unless you have underinsured or uninsured coverage added to your automotive insurance policy. One such person placed in this situation is Carlos Rodriguez. The Chronicle reports that Carlos Rodriguez, a survivor of a drunk driver collision, would have been required to pay for two surgeries and four months of physical therapy so he could learn to walk again, had he not had uninsured motorist coverage added to his automotive insurance policy.
If your policy has this coverage, you insurance company will “step in” and pay for your medical treatment, lost wages, and pain and suffering if you are hit by an uninsured motorist in the Houston Metro area. If you have been hit by an uninsured motorist or a drunk uninsured driver in Texas, please contact our Houston automobile accident attorneys for a free review of your insurance policy to see what benefits you may be entitled to under your automotive insurance policy.
