No Charges Recommended In 2009 HFD Crash Killing 1 and Injuring 10
According to the Houston Chronicle, the Houston Police Department recommended no charges against the driver of the Houston Fire truck that caused the Montrose area collision with another fire engine. According to the Department, the District Attorney’s office is currently reviewing the decision and still has the option of filing charges should it choose to do so. The accident killed 29 year-old Leigh Boone as she rode her bike to work on the morning of March 30, 2009. While state law provides privilege to operators of emergency vehicles who drive appropriately during emergency situations, it does not absolve these drivers from the duty to operate the vehicle with proper regard for the safety of all persons. Further, it does not absolve drivers of the consequences of recklessly disregarding the safety of others.
