NTSB Urges Total Cell Phone Ban to Curb Car Accident Fatalities
On Tuesday, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) called for a complete, nationwide ban on all cell-phone use, including texting, while driving. Officials insisted that the ban is necessary to combat the alarming number of recent distracted driving fatalities, pointing to Department of Transportation statistics indicating that 2010 saw more than 3,000 deaths linked to drivers not paying attention to the road. While many states already ban texting behind the wheel, the new measure would go well beyond any other measures that have so far been introduced.
