The Most Common Types of Car Accidents
Every year in the United States there are literally millions of auto accidents. From January through November of 2008 alone, there were over 359,000 automobile accidents just in the state of Texas. By analyzing these statistics it becomes clear that certain types of car accidents tend to happen more frequently than others. Here are a few examples of the most common types of auto accidents:
Rear-end collisions-This is the most common type of accident and is often the result of a negligent and inattentive driver.
Collisions at intersections-These accidents are inherently dangerous because they tend to affect largely unprotected areas of the vehicle, including the doors and front and rear quarter panels of the car.
Collisions resulting from lane changes-These accidents, also known as “side-swipes”, occur frequently and are usually the result of a driver failing to properly check for the presence of another vehicle.
Collisions on a defective street or highway-These accidents are the result of some pre-existing condition (e.g. inoperable traffic lights, no signage, inadequate road maintenance) that caused or contributed to the collision.
